Only 8 rounds remain in the 2022 MLS Fantasy Soccer season. For anyone looking to make moves in the overall standings, it’s time to rack up some big scores.
Gameweek 22 is a standard card with each team playing once. On paper, it looks like there are an abundance of midfield options and some tough calls up front.
Goalkeeper
Essential: None
Recommended: Djordje Petrovic (New England Revolution) Andre Blake (Philadelphia Union)
Despite only having played 9 times for the Revs, Petrovic has made quite an impression with four clean sheets and two penalty saves. He faces a DC United side who have blanked in four of their last five away games.
The Union have conceded the fewest goals in MLS this season (18) and Blake has kept out the opposition four times in seven games. However, this week’s visitors, Chicago Fire, have scored three goals in each of their last two road games.
Possible: Brad Stuver (Austin FC) Maxine Crepeau (LAFC) Stefan Frei (Seattle Sounders)
Defenders
Essential: None
Recommended: Kai Wagner (Philadelphia Union)
Wagner has as many assists as clean sheets (10) this season and his last three home games have resulted in fantasy scores of 18,8 and 9. Though the Union will need to stop a Chicago attack who have scored six goals in their last two away games.
Possible: Aaron Long (NYRB) Brandon Bye (New England Revolution) Olivier Mbaizo (Philadelphia Union) Thiago Martins (NYCFC) Diego Palacios (LAFC) Yeimar Andrade (Seattle Sounders) Alex Roldan (Seattle Sounders)
Midfield
Essential: Hany Mukhtar (Nashville SC)
Mukhtar has seven double figure returns in his past 11 games, including his ridiculous 21 point return against Toronto.
Recommended: Lucho Acosta (FC Cincinnati)
Since missing three matches through suspension, Acosta has returned with four assists and 21 points over two games.
Possible: Lewis Morgan (NYRB) Carles Gil (New England Revolution) Daniel Gazdag (Philadelphia Union) Jonathan Osorio (Toronto FC) Alejandro Pozuelo (Inter Miami) Sebastian Driussi (Austin FC) Diego Fagundez (Austin FC) Lucas Zelarayan (Columbus Crew) Nicolas Lodeiro (Seattle Sounders)
Forwards
Essential: None
Recommended: Diego Rubio (Colorado Rapids) Cristian Arango (LAFC)
Is it points-chasing to go for a guy who managed 22 points over the double gameweek? No it’s not, when you consider that Rubio has had goal involvements in each of his last seven games.
Having Gareth Bale waiting in the wings seems to be working for Arango. He now has 9 goals and a couple of assists over 10 games.
Possible: Brandon Vazquez (FC Cincinnati) Brenner (FC Cincinnati) Mikael Uhre (Philadelphia Union) Lorenzo Insigne (Toronto FC) Jesus Ferreira (FC Dallas) Carlos Vela (LAFC)
Captain
1. Mukhtar
2. Acosta
