Three weeks to go in the 2022 MLS Fantasy Soccer season and there’s everything to play for. We have the last of the monster gameweeks for this year. 18 teams have double fixtures, the rest play once. Be careful with some big hitters only one yellow card from suspension.
Goalkeeper
Essential: None
Recommended: James Pantemis (CF Montreal) Dejan Petrovic (New England Revolution)
Montreal have an early clean sheet chance against Chicago, who have blanked in five of their last seven games. Play Pantemis from the bench and have a strong back-up ready.
Petrovic has kept out the opposition in seven of his last nine appearances and his average is over seven.
Possible: Gabriel Slonina (Chicago Fire) Maxime Crepeau (LAFC) John Pulskamp (Sporting Kansas City) Pedro Gallese (Orlando City)
Defenders
Essential: None
Recommended: Jonathan Mensah (Columbus Crew) Andreu Fontas (Sporting Kansas City)
While he has scored of 10 in each of his last three games (including a goal at Montreal last week) it’s Mensah’s floor that makes him a solid option for the double gameweek.
SKC start the week at home to DC United, who have failed to score in seven of their last nine games. Fontas managed an impressive 10 points last week, including a second clean sheet in three games.
Possible: Joel Waterman (CF Montreal) Rafael Czichos (Chicago Fire) Brandon Bye (New England Revolution) Andrew Brody (Real Salt Lake) Kai Wagner (Philadelphia Union) Yeimar Gomez Andrade (Seattle Sounders)
Midfield
Essential: None
Recommended: Alejandro Pozuelo (Inter Miami) Carles Gil (New England Revolution) Rique Puig (LA Galaxy)
Pozuelo is delivering decent numbers in Miami with 49 points from seven games. He should hopefully go well beyond double figures with games against Columbus and DC United.
Assuming he’s available after missing out on last week’s trip to the Red Bulls, Gil is, as usual, a solid choice. He’s reached double figures in three of his last seven fixtures.
With two goals and two assists in his opening five games, it’s reasonable to suggest that Puig has adapted quickly to life in MLS. The Galaxy are fighting for the play-offs and Puig will hopefully be on penalties after Chicharito’s recent troubles.
Possible: Djordje Mihailovic (CF Montreal) Xherdan Shaqiri (Chicago Fire) Lucas Zelarayan (Columbus Crew) Emanuel Reynoso (Minnesota United) Thiago Alamada (Atlanta United) Sebastian Driussi (Austin FC) Diego Fagundez (Austin FC) Ryan Gauld (Vancouver Whitecaps)
Forwards
Essential: None
Recommended: Cristian Arango (LAFC)
Arango is the stand-out striker option this week with seven goals in eight games. He starts the week at Minnesota who have conceded nine times in their last four home games.
Possible: Romell Quioto (CF Montreal) Cucho Hernandez (Columbus Crew) Gustavo Bou (New England Revolution) Diego Rubio (Colorado Rapids) Gyasi Zardes (Colorado Rapids) Chicharito (LA Galaxy) Raul Ruidiaz (Seattle Sounders)
