MLS Fantasy Soccer 2020 GW4

After the marathon that was Gameweek 3, the fourth instalment of this year’s MLS Fantasy Soccer is like a short sprint. Only twelve fixtures this time with free weeks for Vancouver and Houston making easier for anyone looking to throw ‘scrubs’ into their starting lineups.

Goalkeeper

Strongly Consider

Brad Guzan (Atlanta) is ideal for a place on the bench as the Five Stripes host Orlando. There are several options to pair him in a keeperoo.

Think About

Andre Blake (Philadelphia) and Matt Turner (New England) were at opposite ends of the pitch as their sides played out a 0-0 draw last week. With home fixtures against DC United and New York Red Bulls they have clean sheet potential.

Despite his howler in the derby, Sean Johnson (New York City) bounced back with a shut-out against Columbus and is worth considering.

Defenders

Must Have

If you don’t have Blake in goal, at least some form of Philadelphia cover is a must. Two straight clean sheets make the likes of Jakob Glesnes ($6.2m), Mark McKenzie ($6.1m) and Jack Elliot ($5.4m) potential bargains. Consider doubling up on Union players.

Strongly Consider

Julian Araujo (LA Galaxy) provided two assists and a clean sheet against LAFC – and he’s still only $5.5m. Throw him in, or put him on the bench, for the home game against San Jose.

Richie Laryea (Toronto) is another defender with attacking instincts having already found the net three times this season. This week he is at Montreal and could prove to be a useful sub as part of an autoroo.

Avoid

After the high of winning MLS is Back, Portland Timbers were quickly brought back to earth with a 3-0 thumping at home to Seattle. Despite being at home, they face a Real Salt Lake team who put four past Colorado.

Midfield

Must Have

Pity Martinez has had a turbulent Atlanta career but he looks like a man in form at the moment. He’s a good option at home to Orlando.

Strongly Consider

Alejandro Pozuelo (Toronto) and Nicolas Lodeiro (Seattle) are points magnets who, thanks to the Fantasy MLS scoring system, can provide returns even without goals and assists.

Forwards

Strongly Consider

After a double against the Timbers, Raul Ruidiaz (Seattle) is a good shout to deliver more points against LAFC. It’s not the easiest fixture but, given the visitors recent indifferent form, it’s not the most difficult either.

Think About

Cristian Pavon (LA Galaxy) has been impressive since moving to the league, even when his team have not. Consider him for the game against the Earthquakes.
